The News
Memorial Day Clothing Drive PDF Print E-mail

In conjunction with the First United Methodist Church, on Memorial Day, we will gather at First Christian Church to collect and bag used clothing to take to the Methodist Church for their Memorial Day Weekend Used Clothing Drive. They do this in cooperation with the Seventh-day Adventists and whatever other churches and organizations and individuals want to participate.

They will open the depository in the Activity Building of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City from 9am-5pm Saturday, May 26th and Monday, May 28th, and on Sunday, May 27th from 1pm-5pm. The clothing will be loaded onto a truck and trailer of a group from the Seventh Day Adventists' who take it all to a warehouse in Alvarado, south of Dallas.

At the warehouse, the clothing is sorted, sanitized (a step beyond just cleaning), and packaged for shipment to the next disaster where used clothing is needed. This is much better than trying to pull together a clothing drive after a disaster, when it is usually too late to do any good.

If you cannot make the Memorial Day date, the doors of First Christian Church will be open the Thursday before, May 24th, to accept used clothing. Ernest will be there to take your donations.

Progress on Our New House PDF Print E-mail

The remodel of our newest property is progressing at a great pace. The new interior walls have been framed using both donated lumber and volunteer labor. Also, new windows have been installed, again using volunteers.

Last Saturday, January 14th, after men's breakfast, Walt Hudson and Mike Burow led the charge on starting the new wiring in the house. We had a good crew working and much was accomplished. Keith Fulgham, our licensed plumber, came to men's breakfast too and stayed after to explain what was needed to get the plumbing started. Keith also donated some of the materials that we will need for the plumbing.

Without the help of volunteers and donated materials, the cost of remodeling the house would be exorbitant. So:

THANK YOU to those who have donated money for building materials and for labor.

THANK YOU to all of the adults and youth who have donated their time and hard work.

THANK YOU to all of those that have provided food and snacks for the workers.

For more information on volunteering or donating, please contact Barbara Beall.
