In the inaugural 2009 race, 120 participants registered for the race. In 2010, that number increased to 160. Due to very windy and chilly weather, the 2011 race netted 151 racers; however, all were enthusiastic about the run and said the event was enjoyable, challenging and definitely a “race to run next year.” Several participants commented on the race, saying they enjoyed it as not just a race, but as an event. Afterwards, racers and their families enjoyed the lights and festivities of Lights Spectacular. Local businesses, restaurants, and charity booths benefitted from the increased number of visitors the race brought to Johnson City.

The run is always held on the Saturday of the Lights Spectacular opening weekend. 100% of the net proceeds from the run are used to supplement the ministries of First Christian Church. This year, our 4th annual race will be held Saturday, November 24th at 3:00 pm. 

We are excited about this event and pleased that it has become an annual 5K. The race begins at the crossroads of Avenue F and Ladybird Lane. The course follows Avenue F south for 1 ½ miles and then runners turn and run back to the starting point. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals are awarded for each age group and there is always a drawing for door prizes.
